Cheap doesn’t have to mean last minute

January 1st, 2008

We’re all aware of the great deals to be had on flights, vacations and weekends in luxury hotels at the last minute, and there are websites dedicated to last minute bargains.

It’s possible to get cheap tickets by planning ahead, too. There are a couple of ways to do that.

Sales

Airlines frequently offer cheap tickets as a promotion. The number of seats available is only ever very small and they are often sold out before you even get to hear about them. So join a list. cheaptickets.com will alert you to good deals that come up, in exchange for your email address. You can choose which destinations you’re interested in and set your own price limit.

Cheapometer

cheaptickets.com has a “Cheapometer” that predicts the cheapest prices, month by month. Flights, accommodation, tours and events tickets are all subject to variations brought about by school vacation times, the varying seasons in different areas of the world and so on. There is plenty of information to be had and there are great deals and cheap tickets for you. The “Cheapometer” will help you find your way through it all.

So, if you’re the kind of person who likes to be organised and plan ahead, and you want cheap tickets, you can. Cheap doesn’t only mean waiting to the last minute.

Cheap Ticket Traps

November 27th, 2007

When you’re comparing airline ticket prices it’s definitely not a case of WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get), it’s more like WOFWYM (watch out for what you’ll miss).

If you use the internet to do your flight shopping, you can find some pretty good deals, but check what’s included in the price. Some airlines include everything in the price quoted, but you may have to pay extra for food, beverages, a headset for the entertainment system or to take more than one piece of baggage.

You should also check for any surcharges. You may have to add a fuel surcharge to your fare, a departure tax or airport tax, a government sales tax and a booking fee. There may even be a surcharge for using your credit card.

Do your research carefully. Check the bottom line and good luck hunting down a cheap ticket.
